Etihad Airways recorded a nearly 40 percent year-on-year jump in passenger traffic in the first half of 2024 due to an increase in the number of routes it serviced and aircraft in operation.

The airline carried 8.7 million passengers in the first six months, compared to 6.3 million a year earlier.

“As of June 2024, our rolling 12-month passenger tally stands at 16.4 million,” said Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways.

Despite significant annual capacity expansion, the load factor remained stable at 85 percent for the year.

Furthermore, the airline’s operating fleet grew to 92 aircraft, up from 76 in June 2023. Destinations rose from 66 to 76 by the end of June.

Eight new locations, including Bali, Jaipur and Al Qassim, were added along with seasonal destinations Nice, Antalya, Mykonos, Santorini and Malaga.

Three new A321neos are slated to join shortly, the airline said, without giving any timeline.
