The Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) forum will build on the 2021 inaugural event in Riyadh, which unveiled the kingdom’s 2060 net zero commitment and last year’s conference held in Egypt during Cop27, the state-run Saudi Press Agency reported. In addition, Riyadh has committed to reducing carbon emissions by 278 million tonnes annually by 2030. The national goals will help to achieve regional targets set out under the Middle East Green Initiative of eliminating 670 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent and planting 50 billion trees across the region.
