The LNG deliveries will commence in January 2025. No financial details were given. The agreement underscores the continued growth of China’s LNG market, which is expected to become the largest globally. Saad Al-Kaabi, president and CEO of QatarEnergy, said that the agreement helps meet the requirements of Shell’s end customers in China. Last month, the state-backed company signed an agreement with France’s TotalEnergies to acquire additional stakes in two exploration blocks in the Orange Basin, off Namibia. Qatar is the world’s largest LNG supplier and plans to expand output to 126 mtpa by 2027, from 77 million tonnes currently, under the two-phase North Field expansion project.
