The world’s largest oil producer has signed a letter of intent with a joint venture owned 60 percent by Spanish contractor Técnicas Reunidas and 40 percent by China’s state-owned Sinopec. The deal aims to install a 230 kilovolt power connection at the gas plant substation area and upgrade the water pump system, Técnicas Reunidas said in a statement. The JV will employ more than 400 engineers, specialising in chemical processes. This month Aramco awarded contracts exceeding $25 billion to expand its gas programme as it aims to increase production by more than 60 percent by 2030 compared to 2021 levels. Italy’s Saipem awarded Aramco contracts worth $500m The contracts relate to the phase two development of the Jafurah unconventional gas field, phase three expansion of Aramco’s master gas system, new gas rigs and ongoing capacity maintenance. The Jafurah unconventional gas field is estimated to hold 229 trillion standard cubic feet of raw gas and 75 billion stock tank barrels of condensate. Phase one of the Jafurah development programme, which commenced in November 2021, is anticipated to open in the third quarter of 2025.
