​QatarEnergy signs LNG supply deal with Italy’s Eni

QatarEnergy has signed a long-term LNG supply contract with Italian energy company Eni to support Europe’s energy security.

Affiliates of the state-owned Qatari gas major and Eni signed a 27-year deal to supply up to one million tonnes of LNG per annum.

The LNG will be delivered to FSRU Italia, a floating storage and regasification unit, in the port of Piombino in Italy’s Tuscany region.

Deliveries are expected to start in 2026 and will be sourced from the joint venture between QatarEnergy and Eni, which holds an interest in the North Field East (NFE) expansion project.

QatarEnergy CEO Saad Al Kaabi said the company’s partnership with Eni has resulted in LNG deliveries to the Fluxys LNG terminal in Belgium’s Zeebrugge port and upstream exploration projects in various locations worldwide. 

He revealed that Qatari LNG has been arriving at the Adriatic LNG terminal in the northern Adriatic to meet more than 10 percent of Italy’s natural gas requirements since 2009.

Eni is a partner in the NFE expansion project with a 3.125 percent share.

QatarEnergy last week signed a 27-year LNG supply deal with London-based Shell to bolster Europe’s energy security.
