PWP is expected to issue the request for proposals to the prequalified parties before the end of the second quarter of 2025

A Saudi-listed company and a UAE state-run entity are among a dozen companies shortlisted to develop and operate two major independent power producer (IPP) projects in Oman.

The list includes Etihad Water and Electricity, Acwa Power, Marubeni Corporation, Reliance Power, Sembcorp Utilities, Samsung C&T Corporation, Sumitomo Corporation, Nebras Power, Korea Western Power and Al Jomaih Energy and Water Company, Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP) said in a post on social messaging platform X.

The gas turbine plants, one at Misfah near Muscat in the north and Duqm in the centre of the sultanate, are being tendered as one project and are planned to have a capacity of 2,400 megawatts. They will be developed on a build, own and operate basis.

The project will enhance grid stability in Oman by integrating advanced thermal power plants, the Oman Daily Observer reported, citing Ahmed Al Abri, CEO of PWP.

Nama Power and Water Procurement is the buyer of power and water for all independent power plants and independent water and power plants in the sultanate.

A request for proposals is expected to be issued to the prequalified parties before the end of the second quarter of 2025, with the contract slated to be awarded before year-end, the newspaper said.

The new projects are expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2029.
