Expo City Dubai to unveil plans for residential projects shortly

Expo City Dubai will soon unveil plans for sustainable residential developments as part of a “green” urban planning blueprint.

These projects will include apartments, townhouses and villas, allowing residents to live in the heart of the legacy city, an integral hub in the Dubai 2040 urban master plan, Expo City Dubai said in a statement. 

The new clean and green integrated communities will offer “innovative, environment-friendly design, focusing on wellbeing and sustainable living”.

Ahmed Al Khatib, chief development and delivery officer, Expo City Dubai, said: “These unique residential projects are true to the nature and spirit of our World Expo and pave the way for a growing city that will serve as a blueprint for the way we live in the future.”

Details of the developments will be revealed following the sales centre opening in the Sustainability District on March 15, 2023. 

Potential residents will have access to Expo City Dubai’s diverse attractions, including its educational, cultural and entertainment offerings, offices, leisure facilities, dining options and event venues. It will have 10 km of cycling tracks, a 5 km running track, children’s playgrounds and 45,000 square metre of parks and gardens.

The city, whose districts are car-free to improve safety and air quality, is the first community in the region registered under the WELL Community Standard pilot, which recognises communities that prioritise the health and wellbeing of all inhabitants. 

The mega project will retain 80 percent of Expo 2020 Dubai’s built infrastructure, including 123 LEED-certified buildings and eight Ceequal-certified projects.

Nearly one-third of the Expo City Dubai site has been built so far.

In June 2022, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice president and prime minister of the UAE and the ruler of Dubai, unveiled the plan for Expo City Dubai, part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

During a press conference, Ahmed Al Khatib, chief development and delivery officer of Expo 2020 Dubai, said that the Expo City Dubai will be an independent free zone and have its own authority.

Expo City Dubai hosted the six-month-long Expo 2020 Dubai from October 2021 to March 2022. The venue will now host Cop28 from November 30 to December 12, 2023.
